ClipVault Privacy Policy

ClipVault is a local-first clipboard history utility for macOS. Most clipboard data stays on your Mac. Optional features (iCloud sync and sensitive clipboard capture) change what is stored and where. We do not sell your personal data.

Depending on how you use ClipVault, the app may process:

Clipboard contents you copy while the app is running (text, images, file references/bookmarks, and related metadata such as timestamp, source app name/bundle identifier, and device name).

App preferences stored locally (for example history limits, excluded apps, launch-at-login, lock settings, auto-clear retention, and feature toggles).

Optional encrypted “sensitive” clipboard items if you explicitly enable that feature.

Optional iCloud/CloudKit clipboard history if you enable iCloud Sync and are signed into iCloud.

Diagnostic information written locally by the operating system or the app (for example crash or console logs on your device). We do not operate a separate analytics backend that receives your clipboard contents.

If you enable Apple’s “Share with App Developers” (a system setting), Apple may collect crash and performance diagnostics about ClipVault and show aggregate reports to us in App Store Connect / Xcode. That data is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy terms; ClipVault does not upload clipboard contents or custom analytics events for that purpose.

Local history is stored in application support databases and media files on your Mac.

Sensitive/password-related items (only if you opt in) are encrypted with a key kept in the macOS Keychain and stored in a separate local database that is not synced via CloudKit.

If iCloud Sync is enabled, non-sensitive history may sync through Apple’s CloudKit using your Apple ID. Apple’s privacy terms also apply to iCloud.

By default, ClipVault does not save concealed clipboard items or content from common password-manager apps.

If you enable “Save passwords & concealed clipboard items” in Settings: you instruct the app to capture those items; they are encrypted and kept local-only with a short auto-delete lifetime; viewing history may require Touch ID or your Mac password when lock is enabled; and you remain solely responsible for deciding whether to enable this feature and for securing your Mac account, FileVault, backups, and physical access.

Enabling sensitive capture increases risk if your Mac is unlocked, shared, compromised by malware, or backed up insecurely. Prefer keeping this feature off unless you understand and accept those risks. ClipVault is not a password manager.

We do not sell clipboard contents or personal information.

We do not use your clipboard history for advertising.

We do not require creation of a ClipVault-specific cloud account separate from optional Apple iCloud Sync you control.

We do not share your clipboard history with third parties for marketing. Data may be processed by Apple frameworks you enable (for example CloudKit/iCloud, Keychain, LocalAuthentication, and MetricKit diagnostics when you opt into Share with App Developers). If you export, copy, paste, screenshot, or otherwise disclose history, that disclosure is under your control.

You can clear history, delete individual items, pause capture, exclude apps, set auto-clear timers (including 2, 3, or 7 days, or keep forever), and uninstall the app. Pinned and favorite items are not removed by auto-clear. Sensitive items auto-expire based on your TTL setting.

Uninstalling may leave data in Application Support until you delete it; iCloud copies (if sync was enabled) may remain until removed from your iCloud data according to Apple’s tools and policies.

ClipVault is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). Do not use the app to store a child’s sensitive information.

We implement reasonable technical measures such as App Sandbox (as configured), optional device authentication to view history, Keychain-backed encryption for sensitive items, and local-only storage for sensitive captures. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for macOS account security, disk encryption, and access controls.

Data is processed on your device and, if you enable iCloud Sync, through Apple’s infrastructure in locations Apple operates. By using those features you consent to such processing.

We may update this Privacy Policy. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. The “Last updated” date on this page will change when revisions are published.
